Eastern Front Rabbit Fur Jacket

Postby fischer » Sat Oct 11, 2025 10:22 pm

Hi Guys,

An eBay purchase from many years ago that I recently came across in a storage bin.
I intended to use it reenacting but never did. I wasn't even sure if it was real or a postwar creation.

I did post it in the Heer Uniforms section on WAF and it received a thumbs up for originality and the stamps are correct.
Actually, the fur is rather nice for an item like this.

Cheers!

Hi Don, this looks great, no expert on these but does it fit and are you going to wear it?

Thanks Paul! Being a size "4" it's a large size and does fit.

Will I wear it...probably not. I had it on and I the rabbit fur was kind of itchy.

I was trying to find out about the green stamp and found another example doing a google search.
Has anyone ever seen this stamp in use?

Here is another that is more legible than mine.

Hi Guys,

I did another search and found the EULAN is the following;

The "Eulan" marking found on German WW2-era items indicates that the material was treated with the moth proofing agent Eulan

Probably the reason it has not been devoured over the years.
And, probably not a good idea to wear this thing as who knows what chemicals are in EULAN!!

Great thing to find on chance Don. Great when that happens. Actually I saw it on WAF a few days ago when you posted it. Not usually in that sub forum so just chance but smiled when I saw your post.

Regards Mark.

Hi Don, don’t know about the markings but genuinely looks like a one off piece. Don’t forget it was bloody freezing so they made anything and everything up especially in fur to keep warm

Thanks Guys!

@Andyb - After posting mine on WAF, I did search around and these were more than a one off piece.
These were made to wear under the tunic for extra warmth.

As you state, it was bloody freezing!

Cheers!

Indeed Don. These were not a winter collection for the brave soldiers at the front but special items for the Wehrmacht. If only their importance was realised and implemented in time for the winter of 41-42 many lives might have been saved rather than sacrificed through bloody mindless by the country’s leader.
