Anyone collect Beer Steins?

Postby muckaroon1960 » Sat Aug 25, 2018 7:30 pm

I have 3 beer steins of which 2 I use, somewhat too frequently I may add. Miller left is part of a series "Birth of a Nation" and has Paul Revere on horse back, the Budweiser is the same Brazilian maker as the Miller and both these date from the early nineties. The German Stein although common keeps the flies and wasps out of your cider, very functional.

Congratulations Paul some great looking steins you have there mate  even though I drink the odd beer myself I don't have one of these to drink it out of at present. A pewter mug is the closest thing to a stein I have. This may change however as a few mates and I are heading to a German beer festival here in Aus come October. Plan to pick one up as a souvenir while I'm there. I will post it here if it and I make it back in one piece  thanks for posting. Regards Mark

Nice examples Paul. I have one myself which I got from Berchtesgaden, I drink all my wheat beer out of it, I think its a stein from the 60s. I also have one I cound in France, its on the forum somewhere. Love these steines - should be a rule that all beer should be drunk from them

Thank you. I love these. This piece is a little interesting. The original, James 1st Tankarded was sold damaged in Christies for £160,00.00 in abought 2000. The repaire was to be undertaked by a very eminet Silversmith - restorer. I saw the piece in his hands - WAS TOTALLY NOCKED OUT Y ITS SIMPLISITY AND BEAUTY. OK - , big question - could the restorer make a facsimily for me? A VERY BIG NO - but if you have 2 that could be arranged. So here we have it. I drink my beer from it, keep it in the fridge. I hope you like it as much as I do.

As a collectable with this history it has its own life.

I mentioned to a younger member of our generation that beer at home means "Davenports"....he gave me a blank stare...never heard of it...typical, kids and flat beer!

Another Stein to add to the expanding collection....German reunification circa 1990. Has all the major cities plus a central depiction of the Brandenburg Gate and the words "Unity and justice and freedom" (top) with "Germany United Fatherland" (bottom)
No 2 stamped on the base and 0.7l C-Ko above the handle.
