Christmas Truce 1914 Sculpture - Liverpool.

Postby The Devils Bank » Mon Oct 01, 2018 2:52 pm

As most of you now know, during the First World War, there was a small "truce" between British and German soldiers.

Legend has it that a football kick around of sorts, was played on the Flanders battlefield, Christmas Day 1914.

To commemorate this, sculptor Andy Edwards was invited to create a sculpture, as a tribute to all the footballers who served in WW1.

Andy's sculpture is at the "National Arboretoum" in Staffordshire, home of the Armed Forces Memorial.

A full size resin copy first came to Liverpool 14 December 2014, and hopefully it wil remain here for many years.

It's displayed at St. Lukes Church that was very badly damaged during the blitz.

Locally known as the "Bombed Out Church", many, many people have come to see this magnificent sculpture.

Great sculpture Pete. Thought was it would be over by Christmas 1914, if not then certainly by the next one. Not to be unfortunately only four more years of death and misery for all concerned. Thanks for posting. Regards Mark.

How cool is that, to be able to say you've seen them both would certainly be a great experience. Regards Mark.
