This is a great post Andy - its something I have never seen posted or discussed on any other forum - fantastic mate and thanks

I particularly like the art of the Young ladies - Sally B being my favourite, is that a B17?

Yes Dave it’s a B17 and the current B17 sally B has got the artwork of the Sally B on one side and the art work of Memphis belle on the other side as she stared in this role in the film

Here are some more B17s and the sentimental lady has two cameras painted on her , I think she may have been in two films

Here's some other nose art of a B17-G, "Wee Willie", of the 323rd BS. 91st BG (Bassingbourn, same airfield as Memphis Belle).
Unfortunately April 10th 1945 on its 128th bomb run the plane was hit by Flak in its fuel tanks and tore apart its left wing as captured on film from another 17. The plane disintegrated soon after this picture was taken, miraculously some of its crew survived.
(Pictures taken from the book "B17 Fortress at War" by Roger Freeman, Ian Allen Publishing).

Art work by Sgt Johnnie White, 96BG based at Snetterton Heath. Includes his working drawing for B17 "Georing's Nightmare".
Picture of actual aircraft showing White's art work. Aircraft had suffered damage due to belly landing at Snetterton.

'Members of the flight and ground crews of a B-17 bomber named 'Honey Chile II' make adjustments to their plane prior to a mission, Polebrook, Northhamptonshire, England, Autumn 1942. The crew and plane originate from the 97th Bombardment Group of the 8th Bomber Command (later 8th Air Force) which was stationed at Polebrook from June until November of1942.
