U-Boat Leather Jacket.

Postby The Devils Bank » Sat Oct 12, 2019 7:44 pm

I'm delighted to get this piece of naval history, u-boat crewmans deck jacket.

Original heavy gray leather, all it's buttons are present and correct.

Not the usual 3/4 length double breasted type, this is the shorter single breasted version.

Black wool interior.

Complete with manufacturers label.

It would normally have the small stand up collar, but I think it's had a "in field" modification done to it.

Hence the green collar added.

The collar?

The stand up collar has been removed and the green collar added.

It's been done to good standard and quite suits the look.

Was it for extra warmth?

The only damage I can see is the small seam tear under the right armpit.

I will have that restitched.

Just "found" this picture of captured u-boat crewmen.

If you look very closely, you can see a crewman wth possibly (?) this style of collar.

Dead center, third guy from the right, forage cap, leaning forward to the guy climbing aboard the tugboat.

This is great Pete. What size do you think it is? I see the 46 label, would this be a medium? What a great item - fantastic.

I think it is a Medium Dave, but it fits me across the shoulders and arms, but not across the chest?

So, it would be fair to call it say, a small to medium?

It's a European size, so... :-??

Not really Mucka, most people want the black version and turn it into a SS Panzer jacket.

These grey jackets are common, but, not as good as condition as this one.

I think this has been modified and the new collar attached.

Certainly looks close to the picture Pete, as we know everything was converted and if the collar meant a little bit more warmth, iam sure they will have done it
 great jacket

Thanks lads, it is a great jacket and it has that damp, musty smell.

Love it!
