Stadthalle Mulhiem.

Postby Dave_Holden » Sat Apr 04, 2020 11:39 am

Here is an interesting building built between 1923 and 1925. I cannot find an awful lot of information on it local but I do know that it was regularly used for HJ concerts and meetings. Baldur von Schirach made many speeches at this building.

The building was badly damaged during the WW2 bombing but was repaired in 1950. Internal of the building is a bronze of a young girl by Breker, but of course no access to the building at present due the the present C-19:

Thanks for looking.

The history is still out there Dave, I'm surprised the Germans didn't knock it down after the war..

True Pete. The only thing that remains external that shows its history is the typical pattern you can see on the photo that has the blue stadthalle sign. You can see the same zig-zag pattern at the Berlin Olympic stadium and the Haus der Kunst in Munich. The pattern runs around the top of the building.

Pretty much the same Mark, it’s used for concerts - mostly classical or opera. It also has a very large restaurant for functions. I would certainly like to look inside when possible.

Thanks Dave. As always great to see these things so far away.
