Kriegsmarine Azimuth

Postby muckaroon1960 » Sat Jun 22, 2019 8:42 am

Car boot again today and before I'd even got going met a guy I know who wheels and deals. "Come with me" he says, "I've got something for you in the boot of my car"....Now he tells me this is a WW2 German Navy Azimuth? I'm assuming he's correct. Missing its wire on the viewer but looks the business. Would have sat on a gimble above a compass or fixed position if not used on a ship but shore battery maybe...I'm no expert on these things and assumption is the mother of all cock-ups!!!!
if any of you guys can enlighten me on this it would be appreciated, oh and one final thing...£30.

A most interesting piece. Well done. There is only one thing more to say, £30.00, Well, "you are a robber i'll tell your Dad".

Hi Chris, its what the guy wanted for it, so who am I to refuse. I've replaced the wire on the sight and I'm going to make a wooden base to fit it on for display.

Great, you must understand my humour. You salvaged a great piece. A pride in any collection.

To be honest I wouldn't pay that much for one as I tend to steer clear of German militaria as I have very little knowledge of this area. But sometimes you have to buck the trend and go with your "Gut" instinct. The one on ebay is an earlier model, which is numbered and has its original baseplate which is missing from the one I have.

Mounted on a piece of ply and on display with my meagre collection of WW2 German militaria. I've also just realised there is a Kreigsmarine/U Boat section on this forum.... #-o
